This paper provides an overview of the current position of the Transport Technology Forum’s
Digital Controller Interface Standard (DCIS) project, its objectives, the rationale for why the project is
being undertaken and its current position in a continually developing arena.
The focus will be on the technical content of the suite of files that allow digital representation of
signal-controlled locations on the road network (a “digital twin”) but there will be some
consideration of how the data may be used, and how it may be created as a by-product of normal
traffic engineering processes.
